Voices against rape is providing support for rape victims and their families.
Though we provide aid to all survivors of rape, we provide specialized support for a group of people who often get lost in an abyss between common sense and the law. These are the survivors of people raped by assailants known to them.
Spousal rape, date rape, acquaintance rape, incest have no separate distinction legally and many services providing aid to rape victims are also unable to see the distinction between stranger-rape, and rape by a known individual.
We recognize that, emotionally, a victim may face far greater challenges when raped by an individual that they know. The idea of pressing charges on a spouse, a relative, a family friend, a college buddy, etc. has a great deal of added potential emotional conflict. Considering angry relatives, upset friends, people questioning your decision openly, your own feelings for the perpetrator, your children if you any with the perpetrator, etc. can make this a far more challenging decision.
While we strongly feel that pressing charges is the best choice, not only for your own long-term well-being, but also in preventing future rapes of this type from the same individual, We — unlike other rape resources, understand that this is a difficult decision and we will respect your choices. We would prefer you press charges but if you don’t we will continue to provide support free of charge unlike some other agencies.
We provide crisis intervention, emotional support, and medical advocacy to sexual assault survivors and their families. We provide in person, over the phone, and online support. We offer a safe place for you to tell your story in private or we can post it on our website. Its never too late to use your voice against rape! We are advocates, on your side!
